Elsa Schiaparelli - the woman and the designer.

Hi everybody!
Today I wanted to talk to you about one of the most prominent Italian designers of all times: Elsa Schiaparelli. Recently there has been a Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (aka: the Met Ball) and this year it was dedicated to two Italian fashion icons: Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada. We'll talk about the first one today:

Elsa Schiaparelli was - as we mentioned before - an Italian fashion designer (born in Rome in 1890). Along with Miss Coco Chanel, her greatest rival, she is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in fashion between the two World Wars. Starting with knitwear, Schiaparelli's designs were heavily influenced by Surrealists like her collaborators Salvador Dalí and Alberto Giacometti. Her clients included the heiress Daisy Fellowes and actress Mae West.
Schiaparelli did not adapt to the changes in fashion following World War II and her business closed in 1954.
Elsa led a refined life with a certain amount of luxury provided by her parents’ wealth and high social status. She believed, however, that this luxury was stifling to her art and creativity and so she removed herself from the “lap of luxury” as quickly as possible. Schiaparelli moved first to New York City and then to Paris, combining her love of art and design to become a couturier.

USA inspired look.

Hello guys! It's been a while since I last posted something but I've been incredibly busy with school: I have my exams this year and I'm busy with my university choice...moreover I am going to leave Rome and move to London next September so I'm quite anxious for that.
I've made my applications and all, but it still is hard for me to take a final decision on my future...

Anyway, I don't want to bother you all with my problems, so here it is, finally, my new post: this picture here shows my new Lookbook outfit. I took inspiration from America and I will probably keep on posting some looks inspired by the USA.
Hope you like it! :)

If you have any enquiry about this look and the pieces you can see in it, please let me know in the comment section below :)

Alice + Olivia A/W 2012/2013 Collection.

"Alice + Olivia" was founded by Stacey Bendet and Rebecca Matchett in 2002. The line is named after the first names of the pair’s mothers. The socially well-connected duo showed Bendet’s first designs to a crowd of fashion-industry insiders and celebrities at the Russian Tea Room that year, with a “just pants” collection introducing the label’s signature low-rise, slim-fitting “Staceypants” in bright colors and funky patterns.
Now here it is, Autumn/Winter 2012/2013 Collection of this young brand.

Dilek Hanif Haute Couture (Spring 2012) Runway show at Paris Fashion week.

Dilek Hanif’s Haute Couture Spring 2012 runway show was one of the most beautiful catwalks of Paris fashion week. Each look is very accurate and delicate at the same time. All the outfits are elaborate and the embroideries are amazing.
So here it is, Spring 2012 Collection:

Marc Jacobs A/W 2012/2013 Collection.

Marc Jacobs is always Marc Jacobs. There is no one like him. Said so, here it is: Marc Jacobs A/W 2012/2013 Collection.

This wasn't the typical runway.
Layers upon layers, it seemed like the models were preparing for a big storm. This collection was a shift away from the sexy, body-hugging outfits to more loose, whimsical designs.
The colors of each piece were very somber. The shapes were very loose and looked incredibly comfortable. Big scarves and gigantic hats were the main accessories, and oversized tweed and wool coats were the strenght of the Collection.
